Nanjing 120 Emergency Doctors and Death "Race" Day

Jiangsu, China Network August 17th Nanjing News (National Health) Every time the urgent telephone rings, it means that a race against time is about to start for emergency doctors. August 19th is the first Physician’s Day in China. Following the footsteps of a 120 emergency doctor, the reporter recorded the first-aid day in a race against time and life, and felt the ups and downs in her work and life.

Liu Shengsheng is 36 years old. After graduating from medical university, he came to work in Nanjing and settled down in Nanjing. At the end of 2013, she wanted to challenge herself and apply to Nanjing Emergency Center to become an ordinary emergency doctor.

  half past seven

When the reporter rushed to the West Emergency Sub-station of Nanjing Emergency Center, Liu Shengsheng, who had gone to work at 8: 00, had changed into white work clothes, and was as heroic as a female soldier, close to 1.7 meters, with short hair and a bit of sunshine, freedom and vitality. After completing the OA system login, she began to carefully check the first-aid drugs and medical equipment to see if the drugs need to be added, check whether the oxygen is enough and whether the medical equipment is in good condition … After some preparatory work, it was 7: 50, just close to work time.

  three past eight

"Ding-ding-ding", a sudden ringing of the mobile phone broke the silence. Liu Shengsheng received an instruction from the dispatching command center: Lhasa Road, a 67-year-old man suspected of having a stroke and needed emergency rescue. Liu Shengsheng rushed out of the door in turn with emergency equipment and crew members.

At this time, the ambulance honked all the way and arrived at the patient’s community in 8 minutes. During the driving process, Liu Shengsheng has contacted his family by phone to inquire about the patient’s situation, to reassure them that the ambulance will arrive soon, and to ask his family to bring medical insurance cards and medical records. This is what Liu Shengsheng must do every time he leaves the car. As soon as the car stopped, Liu Shengsheng carried medical equipment, picked up the first aid kit and held the stretcher. The three men ran to the fourth floor in one breath. Because the patient lives in an old community, he is panting and sweating when he goes upstairs. Enter the patient’s home, check the vital signs by ECG, blood pressure, etc., then carry the patient to the ambulance and send him to the provincial people’s hospital for further treatment.

After handing over the patient to the hospital, Liu Shengsheng came out first, got into the car, picked up the tablet computer, and filled in the patient’s electronic medical record and driving information. The reporter tried to pick up the medical equipment that Liu Shengsheng had just carried, which weighed 10 kilograms. At this time, Liu Shengsheng was like a "female man". In the car, the reporter saw that the clothes on her back were completely attached to her body because of the soaking of sweat.

  five past nine

The dispatching command center received an alarm from the public. A middle-aged woman on Caochangmen Street was injured by cycling and needed treatment.

Not long after returning to the site, Liu Shengsheng, who was sorting out the car-related records, rushed out with his colleagues. After arriving at the site for inspection, it was found that the injured person’s waist and right limb could not move, and it was suspected that there was a fracture. Liu Shengsheng comforted the patient’s emotions. After fixing the injured person’s right leg with the nurse, he used a special shovel stretcher to carry the injured person to the ambulance and take him to the hospital.

  twenty five to eleven

There is a fracture patient in a hospital in Xuanwu District who needs to be transferred for treatment. When they arrived at the hospital, Liu Shengsheng and the stretcher bearers pushed the stretcher to the patient’s floor. After the handover with the doctors in the hospital, they fixed the patient on the stretcher and put him on the ambulance. This is a "first aid" for Liu Shengsheng.

  twenty past twelve

It was noon when they returned to the substation. On standby, they trotted all the way to the canteen to cook. On the way, there were not many words between them, and their faces were full of fatigue. "Take advantage of the gap to cook quickly, and the canteen will be closed later. Maybe the car will leave in the next second." Liu Shengsheng said that although beginning of autumn was gone, it was still very hot at noon, and ambulances were called most often at this time. It was common to leave the car in the middle of eating. The last time he had lunch, it was already 3 or 4 o’clock in the afternoon, and sometimes he could only eat some fruits brought from home. Sure enough, the work phone rang again before the meal was finished.

fifteen to one p.m./a quarter to one p.m.

"Excuse me, is your home in Longjiang District? Tell someone to wait downstairs, and we’ll be right there. " Liu Shengsheng got on the ambulance while calling back to confirm the patient’s location. The helper is a woman, saying that the old mother’s heart is uncomfortable, and she can’t get up in one breath, and her family members are very anxious. On the way, the patient’s family called again to urge, and the ambulance running all the way arrived in Longjiang Community 10 minutes later.

The patient’s home is on the fifth floor. The patient is sitting on the sofa and in poor health. Liu Shengsheng immediately gives oxygen to the patient, checks his heart rhythm, and the nurse measures his blood pressure and gives him infusion. Looking at the patient inhaling oxygen, the family members breathed a sigh of relief. They said: "At that time, when I called, the situation was particularly critical. My old mother felt chest tightness and couldn’t get up in one breath. She almost fainted."

It is understood that the patient has diabetes and high blood pressure for several years and has no heart disease. After on-site treatment, Liu Shengsheng, together with the nurse, pushed the patient downstairs with a stretcher. On the way to the hospital, the family members were anxious, and Liu Shengsheng kept comforting the patients and their families until the handover with the hospital was completed.

  ten past two p.m.

After seeing the patient off, she left the Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. On the way, Liu Shengsheng fell asleep with her head leaning against the window with her tablet computer and first aid notebook in her hand … The reporter didn’t have the heart to bother her again.

  twenty four to four p.m.

There was a traffic accident on Qingliangmen Street, and some people were injured. Close to the scene, I saw a young man waving a sun hat in the distance. He was a passer-by. When he saw a car accident, he offered to help. Sweating all over his face, he said to the emergency personnel, "I like you, and I came here in 6 minutes." Liu Shengsheng is busy dressing the wounded, the nurse holds the wounded, and the stretcher bearer pushes the stretcher to stand by. After carrying the patient to the ambulance, Liu Shengsheng took the initiative to help the patient contact his family and explain the relevant situation. On the way to the hospital, the reporter saw Liu Shengsheng take out a paper towel to help the injured gently wipe the blood from the corner of his eyes.

  twenty three past five p.m.

An old man in Jinji apartment suffered from diarrhea for a long time. When Liu Shengsheng arrived at the old man’s home, he found that the old man had been suffering from severe diarrhea with vomiting for a day and was weak. In addition, the old man was 87 years old, and new illness might occur at any time. She took the initiative to help the old man wipe off the urine and vomit, and carried the old man to the ambulance with a soft stretcher with the stretcher.

  seven to seven p.m.

When the reporter was ready to leave, Liu Shengsheng received a phone call from the dispatching command center. "An old man fell and was suspected of having a femoral neck fracture." "Go, get out of the car." I saw that she picked up the medicine cabinet and quickly rushed to her own battlefield …

Liu Shengsheng’s day is just a microcosm of many emergency doctors in Nanjing. For the vast number of emergency personnel, every day is a "life and death" speed contest! Regardless of spring, summer, autumn and winter, regardless of the heat and cold, they stick to the concept of "time is life", shuttle through the streets and lanes, rush about for one life in a difficult environment and exhausted struggle, and appreciate the lofty value of saving lives.
